I Am Back.. (On Education)

Posted on

I had to take a brief hiatus but I have returned to bore my small part of the webverse with my unasked for opinions. As usual, I have something to say! (Actually, I have quite a lot to say but will do this one subject at a time)

I have a friend who runs the debate program at the high school. These students travel all over the country to various universities for different competitions. Evidently, because of this, debaters tend to be more aware of, and sensitive to, the extreme radical philosophies and crooked thinking which is infecting our universities. One of her students lost a debate in a national competition because he did not say “herstory” instead of “history” during the course of the debate on an unrelated topic!

As absurd as it sounds, this stupidity is taken seriously by many young people. My friend just shook her head when I pointed out that “herstory” unfairly favored the female point of view over the male. So if one were to become that excruciatingly concerned with historical neutrality then we should just call history “itstory” and call IT a day!

Now I hear that some universities have begun to encourage students to turn each other in for speech that represents wrong thinking! Have we become a third world country whose citizens must worry about thought police? Isn’t it bad enough that the left tries to shut down conservative radio and conservative television. Facebook and Google demonetize and close down accounts of conservatives. Some of the Silicon Valley companies routinely fire any employee who reveals conservative sympathies. The only group of people treated with more contempt by the mainstream media, the establishment, academic professionals and Hollywood are Christians!

This cancer is leaching out into the public. It isn’t just the pervasive victim mentality, but now the NAACP wants caucasians to be tested for implicit bias and claims that white people are unconsciously prejudiced against black people. Has anyone addressed the growing problem of black racism against whites? One of the college students I work with told me that it was impossible for blacks to be racist! Because she is a friend and because I really do like her as a person, I walked away from the conversation rather than argue. But this is crooked thinking!

I have been a very strong supporter of Originalism since the early eighties. The Constitution is not a living breathing document which changes and grows with the nation. The Constitution is our rock solid foundation, our protection against tyranny and governmental overreach, it is the guarantor of our God given rights and the Congress cannot change it, neither can the courts alter it.

The biggest problem I see in all of this is in education. If we are not teaching our children to think critically, to separate fact from fiction and the dangers of group think then our republic will not last.

We need an educated electorate.

The universities we have today are not giving us graduates who can quickly and correctly analyze complicated situations, critical thinkers, listeners and accurate observers, unconventional solution seekers – instead we are getting acceptance of anything read as fact, political party over country, shutting down opinions one disagrees with, groupthink, etc.

There is always more than one point of view. One should always know AND UNDERSTAND both before claiming a position.

We need an educated electorate!!

Rifles, Weapons & Guns, Oh My!

The Second Amendment is about much more than putting food on the table or providing a ready militia in the event of an attack on the homeland. Our freedom loving founding fathers were very obvious and outspoken in their belief that the citizens’ right to posses the most dangerous personal weapon of that day was absolutely necessary in order to have the means of defense against a tyrannical government. I do not think they believed that the fledgling American Republic was going to morph into a repressive regime in ten or twenty years, no..they were looking into the future as they did with all aspects of our beautiful Constitution and Bill of Rights.

It should come as no surprise that the US government refuses to acknowledge this truth and seems to be determined to assemble a national gun registry and as many limitations on the Second Amendment as possible. Illegal guns are so readily available on the black market that gun control does not meet the common sense test. These mass shooters are almost all suffering from some sort of mental health problem, however, that is a difficult issue to define narrowly enough to keep guns away from those who are dangerous without:

  • Taking the Constitutional rights from those who may have issues that do not make them dangerous to themselves or others, arachnophobia, agoraphobia, mild depression, hypochondria, etc.
  • Some type of mechanism to control the decision process so that it cannot be abused for political, inheritance, revenge or any other nefarious reason.
  • There must be an appeals process with final determination by a court since it involves a God-given right enumerated in the Bill of Rights.

This afternoon when I heard one of the victim’s father speak on Fox, he was most elegantly focused on the simple truth-

  • It isn’t about the gun debate, which will not fix anything.
  • The country will not come together over gun bans or gun limits.
  • We protect our courthouses, our airports, concerts, football games, etc. The schools we send our children to deserve at least as much! The entire country can come together to see that this is done

There is the eternal question that lurks in the background, everyone is aware of it but no one in the media will talk about it or ask. Why do the Democrats attack the Second Amendment at every possible opportunity when they know as well as we do that it will do nothing to help prevent mass shootings. Is it not strange that they ignore things that would actually help in order to propose legislation which would just take guns out of the hands of honest law abiding citizens leaving them helpless and vulnerable to both easily armed criminals and a repressive tyrannical government.

Good Strategy – Bad Analysis

I was very impressed at how quickly the Florida students were organized to campaign for gun control. I believed I had written my final statement on the matter when I posted – JUST ANOTHER GUN BATTLE – after the Las Vegas tragedy. But when I saw these kids being used by the anti-gun lobby, I saw red! How could anyone use minors who have just survived a frightening situation and who are mourning the loss of friends and teachers to further political goals that will not even solve the problem!?!

There are MILLIONS of guns circulating in society and being passed down in families. There are millions more available on the black market. If the gun laws were changed tomorrow, it would not affect anything. It would not make one school safer. It would not make it impossible for any criminal to get a gun. So what is the point?

I heard a student say that it was not a political issue, not a Republican or a Democratic issue. He said it was a life or death issue. That same student said that if in the coming elections you are taking money from the NRA then there is a badge of shame on you. So the evidence that these kids are being emotionally manipulated is fairly obvious, any thoughtful logical person would immediately spot the contradiction in his speech.

I don’t even like the thought of Congress legislating on emotion instead of logic. I want solutions and results. I want no infringement on the Constitution or our liberty, but I want safe schools and I want the most direct path to that objective. If my only objective is the safety of our children and the immediate insurance that what happened in Florida has little to no chance of happening again then I will find a way to harden the schools so that they are not a target:

  • Frequent irregular patrols by local police
  • Armed security on campus – it could be retired military or law enforcement, perhaps an arrangement with the national guard, off duty police or whatever works.
  • A security assessment should be done for each school. For many small schools this would be simple, but exits ought to be controlled and doors should be kept locked. Everyone must know what to do in an emergency. Every backpack should have a simple bullet proof insert that anyone can readily purchase on line. Etc.,etc.,etc.,…
  • In addition to security, The announcement should be made that qualified teachers will be carrying concealed on campus in every school. No one will know which teachers are carrying. Schools will no longer be gun free zones, however, anyone bringing a gun onto school property will face mandatory imprisonment time with no parole.
  • Medical HIPPA privacy regulations should be altered enough to allow any threats to schools or churches to be reported to the authorities.
  • The minimum age to purchase or own a gun should be 21.

There is no further restriction on gun purchasing or “tightening up of the gun laws” that could have prevented the massacre that took place in Parkland, Florida. The FBI was given two tips that they refused to follow up on. This, more than anything else lies at the heart of what went wrong.

One last thing – as long as our society is being attacked from within, it is going to be very difficult to overcome these societal ills. The toxic breakdown of the family leaves its mark on the next generation of children. Bringing in huge numbers of uneducated foreigners who do not speak English and do not even want to assimilate but instead live in isolated enclaves or segregated communities. The last decade of horribly high unemployment and the evils of government dependence have sickened society. The weaponization of the IRS, the FBI, the EPA, the DOJ, etc. as political arms rather than the people’s government has caused a tremendous loss of faith in the government. The lack of trust grows as more corruption is uncovered. Meanwhile, an entire decade of identity politics has emphasized everything but being an American! For many of those who commit violent acts, family is not a safe refuge or a warm and loving environment where traditional “American” values are taught.

This entire rambling post is merely pointing out that we cannot act on our emotions if we hope to solve the problem. We must turn to experts for input and we must use common sense. We must become a more moral people and a more ethical nation. We must once again become God’s people and His house should reclaim its place as the heart of the community. My sympathies go out to these motivated teens who have decided to organize a national campaign to “beg for their lives”. My heart breaks because they had to go through the trauma that brought them to this. But, if they were as non-political and as clever as they think, they would have never turned away such a large portion of the American people by immediately blaming the NRA for the shooting in their school.

Put away the passion and put your thinking caps on!

Russian Collusion and Us

Let’s just work from the premise that we were given at the beginning. The Russia investigation was a counter-intelligence operation since collusion is not a crime and since there was no evidence of any such thing at that time. However, the argument went (and still does), that we must get to the bottom of Russian involvement in our election because it threatens the very foundation of American democracy. I am sick and tired of the liberal media and the establishment never-Trump Republicans still standing behind this and regurgitating these old, overused and nonsensical talking points.

Our law enforcement agencies operate differently from those that have been set up in police states. I do not believe most people understand the enormous fundamental constraints that even our intelligence agencies in the U.S. have when dealing with constitutionally protected citizens. American law enforcement in all of its manifestations, has never been allowed to take a complaint about a person (that they are bad or crazy or mean in generality) and then go search for a crime. If that were done, we would be a police state. To quote a former secret service agent whose podcasts I frequently enjoy,”The FBI can indict a ham sandwich if they want to.” Mr. Bongino is absolutely correct. Make no mistake, if an intelligence or police agency is armed with detailed information on your every move for the last five years and then you sit down while their trained interviewers/interrogators rapid fire questions on every date and everything you did (even things that held little or no importance for you and thus are totally forgotten), it is almost impossible NOT to have inconsistencies  or alterations and therefor a charge of “lying to law enforcement”. This is why the Special Prosecutor, the FBI, police, Intelligence agencies, all of law enforcement prosecute crimes but they do not prosecute people! Why are we making an exception in the way the FBI is looking for a crime committed by President Trump? Are we comfortable with police state policies?

Furthermore, at a time when our deficit is larger than ever. Our debt is greater than we can wrap our brains around. This is an astronomical problem of criminal proportions. We have a Special Prosecutor who is off the rails. His budget is eating up money without producing the results that the mission goals stated. Lying to the FBI is not remotely proof of any sort of guilt of the non-statutory un-crime of collusion. Every unveiling has revealed wrongdoing by the Democratic Party, not the Trump campaign. Digging into the past just digs up the crimes of the Obama Administration in association with the Clinton campaign. And we just keep throwing good money at Mueller to search for some Russian connection with our president! Is anyone looking at China? Could we please take that money and redistribute it to counter those countries that are successfully making inroads into our entertainment industry, economy and manufacturing….not to mention intellectual property Etc!!

If the Democrats were truthfully as concerned with Russian meddling in our elections as they say they are, they would be taking action instead of trying to dig up something on President Trump. Why are we not doing more to protect the election systems in the states. Obama tried to take control by placing control of elections in the hands of the Federal Government which would put each state at higher risk. We should be actively working to limit ALL INTERFERENCE in our elections and both law enforcement and Congress could be making better use of time! There is more, much more that could be done. There is much more that could be done if the Democrats were not spending all of their time strategizing and plotting how to take down the legally elected president while taking and keeping power. Many more problems could be solved if establishment Republicans were not constantly voting with the highest paying lobbyist and never willing or able to stand up and fight for the people.

Bob Mueller is spending money we do not have and after almost two years with no evidence of Russian collusion, we need to move on and stop wasting money. There are other crimes that do have evidence that are just sitting out there while the respective statutes of limitation slowly run out.

President Trump

I do support the fine job that President Trump is doing and I feel absolutely no need to defend him. As far as I am concerned, he has done nothing out of the ordinary and has only the best interests of the United States in his sights. No other president has ever been subjected to such close scrutiny by the media. Every private conversation is invaded and reported. Every good and noble deed is buried and ignored. No privacy, many betrayals and outright lies about his motives and thoughts. ( We have thought police now?)

It is an incredible sight to see how organizations like CNN subtly utilize the English language to manipulate feelings. Adjectives are used in places where news stories do not usually have adjectives. Panels of talking heads are not divided between Democrats and Republicans…they are all Democrats discussing with backgrounds in various branches of liberal extremism. I watched for almost an hour (it was as much as I could take) and I did not hear one single conservative idea or common sense point of view. If it wasn’t so real it would have reminded me of a bad Saturday Night Live episode from the seventies.

Former President Obama used his eight years in office to create a race problem in America. Since the sixties progress might not have been as rapid as some would want, but morality cannot be legislated, it just does not work! From slow and steady forward progress we began to regress. Now there is rampant racism against blacks and whites. Those of us who helped lead the way to honest social acceptance, who ostracized the people who told racial jokes, who raised our kids to accept everyone as a child of God are now faced with inexplicable hostility from blacks.

So….

I am not angry with my president, I am angry with Dick Durbin for having such a big mouth and reporting a private conversation to the media. I am disgusted with a senator who spoke into the microphone with absolutely no concern for how his words would affect our relationships with other nations. Dick Durbin is a prime example of a liberal who obviously places political party affiliation ahead of loyalty to his country.

Meanwhile, from the shady underhanded negotiations and shenanigans leading up to and the hidden side agreements included in the deal itself, not to mention the illegal way that the former president got it approved (or not) all the way to the four men callously left to die in Benghazi along with the entire embassy. Has anyone forgotten the famous phrase,”If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.”? Or we could remember monumentally embarrassing Obama actions, who else would return Churchill’s bust to the English? (Rude, crude and socially unacceptable)

So…

Why is the media trying to make Donald J. Trump into such a train wreck. By every measure of honesty, the train wreck is not President Trump regardless of how hard the media works to make it so. And it is so very obvious that they are working overtime to create that image as hard as they can. As President Trump keeps the economy on track and keeps Congress scrambling in the right direction, there is little doubt that the media will just become more hateful and childish. Be prepared.

Just one more random point: the Statue of Liberty was given to us by France. The poem about immigrants which was inscribed at the base was added later and was never meant to be a promise or a policy statement. The poetry is a tribute to America’s melting pot, it is not a mandate or requirement to open our borders!

Post Script on the Senate Race

Alabama has some pretty convoluted election laws. There is no real need to get into the nuts and bolts, but it makes me angry when these ignorant know-it-alls on talk shows claim an accusation equals an assumption of guilt. Almost every single talking head calls for Roy Moore to step aside. If he did, a liberal, anti-Second Amendment, pro-abortion, anti-tax cuts, pro-Obamacare, Democratic Party Line Voter will be guaranteed the seat with no competition. Write-in votes have very little chance of ever even being counted. When these accusations were made it was too late to withdraw Moore from the ballot and no substitutions could be made.

So, Alabamians are left with a true ethical quandary. Fortunately, we have more information on the facts and the accusers than is reported on the national media. Also, we have finally begun to see more conservative ads challenging Doug Jones on what he claims are his mainstream views and policies but which do not conform to mainstream Alabama views and opinions at all!

December 12 Alabama voters will decide what to do, not America and not the media and not Washington.

It is a conundrum.

“The Alabama Legislature passed a law in 2016 so that write-in votes are not counted on election day. The law stipulates that write-in votes for a particular contest are not counted unless the total number of write-in votes is greater than the difference in the number of votes received by the first place and second place candidates. If that takes place, write-in votes are counted on the seventh day after the election. If the number of write-ins doesn’t meet that threshold, they are not counted.”
I know people were wondering why every democrat and every media outlet was so helpfully recommending that some trusted Republican be put forward for a write-in campaign, they never mentioned this though!

It Is Long Past Time To Clean Our House…

Why is it so important to prioritize cleaning out the Deep State?
When AG Sessions was asked about why he recused himself from the current investigation into the possibility of collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign during the judicial hearing today, when the investigation was a counterterrorism investigation as opposed to a criminal investigation, his response illustrated the point pretty well. AG Sessions stated that the ethics attorneys in the DOJ did not approach the issue from that particular angle. Why not? I know that every objective rational attorney in the room immediately wondered exactly who those attorneys were.

  •  DOJ-Specific Conflict of Interest Regulation: No DOJ employee may participate in a criminal investigation or prosecution if he has a personal or political relationship with any person or organization substantially involved in the conduct that is the subject of the investigation or prosecution, or who would be directly affected by the outcome. 28 CFR 45.2
  • Political relationship means a close identification with an elected official, candidate, political party or campaign organization arising from service as a principal advisor or official; personal relationship means a close and substantial connection of the type normally viewed as likely to induce partiality.

How an investigation is labeled evidently affects the ethics conflict of interest requirement of recusal for the Attorney General in the DOJ. We are all aware of how much of an impact Mueller has made as the Special Prosecutor. I would argue that if the AG had not recused himself he would have either not appointed a Special Prosecutor at all or he would have appointed someone entirely different. It would have been an impartial, independent and neutral party but things would not be in the mess they are now! There was always the ability to conduct this counterterrorism investigation under the current leadership of the FBI. The present head of the FBI, Wray, is not a media hog, is sworn to follow the facts, has nothing whatsoever in his long distinguished and honorable record to indicate any lack of trustworthiness and is held in high esteem by everyone in Washington worth a modicum of respect.

Such a small thing – cleaning the deep state out of our government administrative agencies. The committee member who asked AG Sessions this question should not have been able to catch him off guard. His consultation with the “ethics section” should have analyzed that provision concisely from all angles and then concluded with an opinion. The AG should have been been informed, well aware of the distinction and should have made his own honestly informed un-manipulated decision about recusal in the first place. It was much too important and the repercussions too great for opinionated “deep state” players to be advising!
